The Village of Malta

Situated along the banks of the Muskingum River lies the cozy Village of Malta. Malta, named after the Island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, had its first lots laid out in 1816 by an ex-sailor, Simeon Pool, and his son-in-law, John Bell. Most notably, Malta is known for one of its most famous residents, James Ball Naylor, one of the most known authors in the country at the turn of the twentieth century.

Although small in population, Malta is home to several businesses including, DG Welding & Design, EZG Manufacturing, Malta Dynamics, Muskingum Valley Health Centers and Elliott Lumber. Malta is also home to many small local businesses and churches. When visiting Malta today, be sure to stop by The Rock Hollow School, a one-room schoolhouse built in 1877, and the Morgan County Dungeon where prisoners were confined between 1833 and 1839. Bring your kayak and launch from the new kayak launch that will be completed spring of 2023 or launch your boat at the Malta Boat Ramp and enjoy a relaxing day on the Muskingum River followed up with a delicious meal at the River Queen.

In the summertime, Malta is bustling with activity when neighboring communities come together for sporting league competitions at the Kiwanis Jaycees Community Park. The park, jointly owned with the Village of McConnelsville, was built in 2005 for everyone to enjoy outdoor activities such as baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, or a leisurely stroll on the community walking trail. For anyone looking for small-town adventure in a small village with a big heart, the Village of Malta welcomes you!
