Welcome to Muskingum River Parkway State Park
Muskingum River Parkway State Park is 112 miles of the Muskingum River that has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places and is recognized as the Muskingum River Navigation Historic District. The parkway contains a system of eleven locks and dams, that historically opened the state and the entire Midwest to trade and development.
Today, 10 of 11 hand-operated locks are still functional and offer recreational and site-seeing opportunities for boaters and non-boaters. Two areas offer primitive camping for those wanting to camp along the river and all lock areas permit camping to boaters in transit on the Muskingum River.
Take a historical trip down the river and experience this 160-year-old navigation system that was designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Explore many stops along the way which includes villages, unique lodging, and dining opportunities. Spend a day or several traveling along this unique water trail, now recognized as of America’s great engineering accomplishments.
